Redefining Sustainability at the Grassroots

In Nairobi, thousands of glass bottles are used every single day. They leave restaurants, homes and businesses only to end up in dumpsites, street corners, and overflowing landfills. For most people, it’s just waste, but at Eco-glass it’s an opportunity to redefine what environmental sustainability means at the grass root level.
Founded in Nairobi, Kenya, Eco-glass is a student-led enterprise re-imagining what glass waste can be. In collaboration with British Council’s Going Global Partnerships programme and Riara University, the initiative focuses on transforming glass waste into reusable products.
At Eco-glass, we collect discarded glass from our communities and transform it into high-quality, reusable products such as home glassware, home décor, and more — giving materials that were once forgotten a second life.
Eco-glass’ vision extends beyond the recycling of glass waste. Imagine if Nairobi’s growing waste problems could become the foundation for jobs, innovation, and a cleaner future. In a city where the search for sustainable solutions is never-ending, Eco-glass believes that the solution is within the people.
Through training, mentorship, and hands-on work, we aim to create sustainable jobs for young people, while opening income opportunities for community members involved in collection and recycling.
Eco-glass is not only shaping a path where waste becomes valuable, but a future where sustainability creates livelihoods, and where Kenyan solutions are created by Kenyans, for Kenyans. Our goal is to change how people see waste, to inspire communities to participate, and to make sustainability visible, practical, and profitable.
